A Nigerian soldier has been killed after troops of the
8 Division Combat Team successfully repelled a terrorist ambush during a patrol
operation in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the
incident in a post shared on X, stating that the attack occurred at about 5:30
p.m. on July 14.
According to the report, troops attached to the
Forward Operating Base (FOB) Raka were on routine patrol near Zurmuku Village
when they came under heavy attack from suspected terrorists.
Despite the surprise ambush, the soldiers responded
with sustained firepower and successfully fought their way out of the assault.
During the exchange of gunfire, one soldier sustained
gunshot injuries and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for
treatment. However, he later died from his injuries.
The incident comes just weeks after another deadly
attack in Sokoto State. On June 30, two Nigerian soldiers were killed and three
others injured while repelling a coordinated terrorist assault during an
operation in Isa Local Government Area.
