Just Liberation News has obtained exclusive details on a significant development in Anambra State's digital infrastructure landscape. Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has initiated a comprehensive crackdown on unauthorized Internet Service Providers (ISPs) operating without proper approvals. This decisive action aims to protect public infrastructure, ensure residents' safety, and uphold the integrity of the state's digital ecosystem.

Background: The Rise of Unauthorized ISPs

In recent months, Anambra State has witnessed a surge in unauthorized ISPs engaging in activities such as illegal road and sidewalk excavations and the erection of poles without necessary approvals. These operations have not only defaced public infrastructure but also posed significant risks, including data breaches, compromised service quality, and safety hazards for residents.

Government's Response: A Coordinated Crackdown

The Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB) and the Anambra State Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Agency have jointly spearheaded the enforcement efforts. Their investigations revealed that several ISPs were operating without submitting deployment plans or obtaining necessary approvals from regulatory bodies like the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Barr. Chike Maduekwe, Executive Chairman of ANSPPB, emphasized, "This isn't about shutting anyone out. It's about ensuring everyone plays by the rules. If you want to offer internet services in Anambra, go through the proper channels."

Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, Managing Director of the Anambra State ICT Agency, added, "Internet access is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Governor Soludo's zero right-of-way policy encourages more players and expands access. However, all interested providers must first engage with relevant agencies to ensure transparency in deployment."

Community Engagement: Reporting Unlicensed ISPs

To bolster enforcement, the state government has established dedicated hotlines for residents to report suspicious or unlicensed ISP activities:

  • 08062533672
  • 02014143039

Residents are encouraged to utilize these channels to aid in identifying and curbing unauthorized operations.

A Vision for a Regulated Digital Future

This crackdown aligns with Governor Soludo's broader vision of fostering a secure, fair, and well-regulated digital economy in Anambra State. By ensuring that only licensed and qualified ISPs operate, the state aims to provide residents with reliable internet services devoid of exploitation or compromise.

As Anambra continues its journey towards digital transformation, the government's commitment to upholding standards and protecting its citizens remains unwavering.
