glowing tribute to the late Nigerian football legend Stephen Keshi, describing
him as a true leader who led by example and inspired those around him.
Speaking on his Global Football Insights platform,
Oliseh reflected on Keshi’s influence within the national team, especially
during his time with the squad that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations. He
praised Keshi’s professionalism, discipline, and commanding presence both on
and off the pitch.
Oliseh described Keshi as the “first superstar of
Nigerian football,” noting that his reputation and achievements earned him
instant respect from younger players who grew up watching him.
According to him, Keshi’s leadership style was rooted
in discipline and responsibility. He recalled how the former captain maintained
high standards within the team, insisting on unity, professionalism, and
commitment whenever he was on national duty.
Oliseh also highlighted Keshi’s dedication to the
national team, recalling how he would travel from Belgium to represent Nigeria
in major tournaments, sometimes returning to his club immediately after
matches. He said this level of sacrifice reinforced Keshi’s legendary status
among teammates and fans alike.

as his personality, leadership, and commitment helped shape a generation of
Nigerian players who grew up admiring him.
