The Taraba State Police Command has recorded a major
breakthrough in its investigation into the killing of three police officers,
following the arrest of two suspects believed to be involved in the attack.
According to a statement issued by the command’s
acting spokesperson, ASP Victor Mshelizah, the incident occurred last month in
Tse Kwe, located in the Tor Damisa area of Donga Local Government Area. The
officers—CPL Raphael Danjuma, PC Ebenezer Daniel, and PC Samuel Bawa—were
reportedly ambushed and killed by suspected militia members during an
operation.
Police investigations led to the arrest of two
suspects identified as Suleman Abdullahi, 30, and Idris Kauri, 33, both
residents of Akente village in Donga LGA. Authorities confirmed that the
suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted in court, while
efforts continue to track down other individuals connected to the attack.
In addition to the arrests, the command announced the
recovery of three service rifles that had been taken from the slain officers
during the ambush, describing it as a significant step in restoring security
and accountability.
The statement further highlighted ongoing efforts by
the Commissioner of Police, Morkwap S. Dongshal, to strengthen security across
the state. Since assuming office, the CP has reportedly intensified patrols and
visibility policing in major towns and along highways to deter criminal
activities.
As part of these efforts, the police chief conducted
on-the-ground assessments in high-risk areas, including Takum and Donga LGAs.
During these visits, he engaged with traditional rulers, community leaders,
youth representatives, and other stakeholders to better understand local
security challenges and build stronger cooperation between the police and
residents.
The command also disclosed another security operation
carried out by officers attached to the Zing Divisional Headquarters. During a
stop-and-search exercise at Yonko, two suspects—Torme Terzugwe and Job
David—were intercepted while travelling on an unregistered motorcycle. A search
of their belongings led to the discovery of 304 rounds of live ammunition.
Investigations into this separate case are ongoing, as
authorities seek to determine the purpose of the ammunition and whether it is
linked to broader criminal activities.
The police command reassured residents of its
commitment to maintaining peace and order across Taraba State. It emphasized
the importance of community collaboration, urging citizens to remain vigilant
and provide useful information to security agencies.
Reiterating its public safety message, the command
encouraged residents to report suspicious activities promptly, stressing that
collective efforts are essential in tackling crime and ensuring lasting
security in the state.
