Fresh unrest has reportedly erupted in parts of the city, with unverified reports suggesting new casualties amid the chaos.

The development has thrown residents into fear, as traders who had earlier reopened their businesses quickly shut down and fled for safety. Witnesses described a tense atmosphere, with people scrambling to find cover over concerns of another round of attacks.

Although security operatives are said to be increasing their presence in affected locations, there has been no official confirmation from authorities regarding the latest incidents.

The curfew earlier imposed to stabilize the situation now appears to be under strain, raising fresh concerns about the fragile security conditions in the state. Authorities have, however, appealed to residents to stay calm, remain alert, and cooperate with ongoing efforts to restore order.

Earlier Attack in Anguwan Rukuba

The renewed tension follows a deadly incident in Anguwan Rukuba, where unknown gunmen, reportedly on a motorcycle, opened fire on residents on Sunday evening, killing at least 28 people.

A local resident, who spoke anonymously via telephone, said the attack occurred near the Anguwan Rukuba junction. In response, aggrieved youths reportedly took to the streets, blocking major roads and heightening fears of further escalation.

Background of Rising Insecurity

The latest violence comes just weeks after a separate attack in Kanam Local Government Area, where heavily armed bandits ambushed a joint security patrol in Wanka and nearby Garga communities. Reports indicated that over 20 security personnel and vigilantes lost their lives in that incident.

Impact on Education and Official Response

Following the Anguwan Rukuba killings, the University of Jos postponed examinations that were scheduled for March 30 and 31.

In an official statement, the university’s Deputy Registrar for Information and Public Relations, Emmanuel Madugu, advised students and staff to remain cautious and limit unnecessary movement.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, addressed residents in a statewide broadcast, assuring that the government would not be intimidated by the violence and remains committed to restoring peace.
