The Imo State Police Command has arrested three
students of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) in connection
with the alleged assault and death of a 100-level undergraduate accused of
stealing ?13,500.
The deceased, identified as Christogonus, was a Cyber
Security student and a member of the Man O’ War organisation within the
university.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in
Imo State, DSP Henry Okoye, preliminary investigations revealed that the
student was allegedly restrained and subjected to a severe beating by fellow
members of the organisation after being accused of theft.
The suspects arrested in connection with the incident
are Chukwuemeka Benedict, 21; Kelechi Gospel Ikenna, 24; and Obioma Anastasia,
21, all of whom are 500-level students of the institution.
Police investigations indicate that the victim
sustained serious injuries during the alleged assault and was subsequently
rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owerri, where medical personnel
confirmed his death.
In a statement, the police said initial findings
suggest that the victim was forcefully restrained and physically assaulted
following allegations involving the disappearance of ?13,500.

Bosso, reportedly ordered the immediate arrest of those involved shortly after
the incident was reported to authorities.
The command also confirmed that relevant evidence
linked to the case has been recovered, while the remains of the deceased have
been deposited in a morgue pending an autopsy and further forensic
examinations.
To ensure a thorough investigation, the commissioner
directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation
Department (SCID) in Owerri for detailed inquiry.
Bosso instructed investigators to identify and
interrogate every individual connected to the incident, emphasizing that anyone
found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He assured the family of the deceased, members of the
university community, and the general public that the police would conduct a
transparent, professional, and comprehensive investigation into the
circumstances surrounding the student's death.
The commissioner further stressed that no suspect
would receive special treatment or protection, regardless of their status, and
reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring justice is served.
Police authorities have urged members of the public to
remain calm and allow investigators to complete their work while the case
progresses through the legal process.
