President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the
Nigerian military and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue
victims abducted during a recent terrorist attack in Borno State.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on
Friday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo
Onanuga.
In the statement, the President expressed deep
condolences to the families of those affected by the attack and mourned the
loss of innocent lives, including military personnel. He also acknowledged
casualties that occurred during the Nigerian Air Force aerial operation
targeting fleeing terrorists.
Tinubu described the attack carried out by the
terrorists as a cruel and heartless assault on defenseless citizens.
He, however, commended the Nigerian military for their
swift response to the incident, noting that the operation led to the killing of
several terrorists and forced others to retreat.
The President further directed the Nigerian Armed
Forces to strengthen efforts to protect civilians across the country and
prevent further attacks on military facilities, particularly in the North-East
region.
Tinubu also offered prayers for the souls of those who
lost their lives during the attack and the subsequent military operation, while
extending his sympathies to their families and the Borno State Government.
