The Supreme Court finally put to rest the raging controversy about whether Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was qualified to run for the office of Nigeria's president when he did last February after it threw out appeals filed by the duo of PDP's Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party's Peter Obi challenging an earlier tribunal judgement affirming his victory at the polls on Thursday.
The apex court, in it's judgement could not find grounds to quash the election of the incumbent president as it clearly stated that it was not swayed by the case of certificate forgery not proved beyond any reasonable doubts.
The ruling, considered as a landmark judgement, thus brought to an end months of bitter feud between the contending parties who threw in everything in their arsenal to turn things in their favour.
It will be recalled that former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar had gone as far as asking a US Court to force Tinubu's former school -- the Chicago State University -- to release his academic records in order to verify the authenticity of the accounting degree he claimed he earned from the school in 1979.
This formed the grounds of his appeal to the Supreme Court. But, finding no sufficient evidence to void the elections and perhaps order a rerun or outrightly sack the incumbent, the Supreme Court had no choice but to dismiss his, and Obi's petitions.
The implication is that Tinubu now has the latitude and peace of mind to concentrate on his job as the country's president in the next four years.
