A tragic road accident has claimed the life of a
nine-year-old girl in Akungba-Akoko, located in Akoko South-West Local
Government Area of Ondo State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, March 29,
around Supare Junction along Supare Road, when a tipper truck struck the young
victim.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson of the
state police command, Abayomi Jimoh, said the driver of the vehicle has been
taken into custody.
He explained that the victim was hit by an
unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck and was immediately rushed to a nearby
hospital, where she was later confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The police also stated that the vehicle involved has
been recovered for further inspection, while investigations are ongoing to
determine the exact cause of the accident.
The command expressed condolences to the family of the
deceased and assured the public that appropriate legal action will be taken.
Authorities further advised motorists to adhere
strictly to traffic rules and exercise caution on the roads to prevent similar
incidents.
