The Tiv Development Association (TIDA), Nasarawa State is concerned with the surge and continuous killing of its members at border areas of Keana and Doma Local Government Areas of the state. The Tiv community in Nasarawa state has continued to experience persistent killings from armed herdsmen especially at the border areas of Keana and Doma, in what has become a daily routine, because no day passes without a Tiv farmer being killed in the above mentioned areas in the state.
This was contained in a statement by the acting
president of the association, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha on Thursday.”We are worried
that since the unfortunate gruesome murder of over two hundred innocent Tiv
farmers in Yelewata, a border town in Benue State, there has been an escalation
of killings of indigenous Tiv farmers in Nasarawa State.
”TIDA are deeply pained because they have lost scores
of farmers, while many have sustained various degrees of injuries, some of whom
are presently receiving treatment at different health centres, including the
Specialist Hospital in Lafia.”The latest incidents occurred between 13th June,
2025 and early July at Dooga Ayande village of Dooka ward in Doma LGA, Antsa
village of Kwara Chiefdom in Keana LGA, Yange village of Tudun Adabu/Kwaghshir
ward in Obi LGA and Akura village of Galadima ward in Giza Area Administrative
Council among other isolated cases resulting in the tragic loss of many
defenceless Tiv farmers, with others sustaining life-threatening injuries.”We
appeal to the Nasarawa state Governor, His Excellency Engr Abdullahi Sule and
security agencies in the state to urgently intervene and halt the killings
which have become too frequent especially in the past one month.”We are banking
on the determination of the Nigerian security agencies to halt the killings
inline with the directives of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who has given
them the marching orders to end this carnage,” the statement partly read.
