Football development in Nigeria has often relied on the dedication and vision of individuals who work tirelessly to discover and nurture talent.

One such figure is Paul Ojo Omamomo, a football agent and scout from Evwreni in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

His unwavering commitment to identifying and promoting young players has earned him a reputation as one of the most influential figures in Nigerian football scouting. His contributions to the game deserve full recognition from both the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and FIFA.

Omamomo’s influence extends beyond Nigeria, as his scouting network has gained global recognition. Numerous football stakeholders and countries have endorsed his efforts, acknowledging his role in bridging the gap between raw talent and professional football. Unlike many agents who focus solely on securing contracts for players, Omamomo takes a more comprehensive approach by prioritizing player development, education, and long-term career planning.

Understanding that football development is incomplete without proper coaching, Omamomo has heavily invested in training Nigerian coaches. He has awarded scholarships to over 20 coaches across the country, enabling them to attend the National Institute of Sports (NIS) to enhance their coaching and scouting knowledge. By empowering coaches, he ensures that young players receive high-quality training, preparing them for the competitive demands of professional football.

His commitment to education extends to footballers as well. Omamomo has facilitated the movement of over 30 Nigerian footballers to Russia, where they have the unique opportunity to combine football with formal education. This initiative is crucial in providing players with alternative career paths should they not reach the highest levels of the sport. It also ensures that Nigerian footballers are well-rounded individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society beyond their playing careers.

Omamomo’s passion for football development is further demonstrated in his sponsorship of coaches and former players for the ongoing CAF license course in Nigeria. This initiative has benefited both grassroots coaches and retired professionals from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), enabling them to obtain top-tier coaching certifications.

Among those he has supported are Toritseju Samuel Igbiaye (grassroots coach), Itoya Ehiabhi Kelvin (ex-Warri Wolves), Igho Ariagbobe Curtise (former U-20 player), Sunday Ossia (former Warri Wolves), Gambo Mohammed (former Kano Pillars), Bassey Akpan (former Akwa United, ex-U-17), Alebiosu Olorunfemi Oyinemi (grassroots coach), and Johnbull Edeke (former Bendel Insurance, ex-U-20).

By sponsoring these individuals, Omamomo is not only giving back to the game but also ensuring that Nigerian football benefits from a new generation of well-trained coaches.

Omamomo’s vision for Nigerian football extends beyond scouting and player transfers. He has developed a global master plan that incorporates various key elements essential for sustainable football development.

His strategy includes community engagement through relationships with local schools and grassroots organizations to identify young talent early. He also prioritizes infrastructure investment by improving football facilities, ensuring young players have access to quality training environments. Coaching education is another key area, as he focuses on training local coaches to enhance their ability to develop young talent effectively.

Additionally, Omamomo integrates data analytics to track player performance and identify areas for improvement. His talent identification programs include organizing regular scouting events and competitions to showcase promising players. He also emphasizes the importance of nutritional support, providing education on proper diet and fitness to enhance players' physical development.

Mental conditioning is another crucial aspect of his approach, as he incorporates psychological training to improve resilience, decision-making, and focus. Collaboration with academies is a significant part of his framework, partnering with existing football institutions to create structured pathways for young players. His scouting networks ensure that talent across Nigeria is thoroughly assessed, reducing the chances of skilled players being overlooked.

Financial support is also central to his vision, as he provides scholarships and financial assistance to players who may face economic challenges in pursuing their football careers. He actively supports national youth competitions to offer exposure and experience to young talents. Lastly, he implements health and injury prevention programs to ensure the long-term well-being of players, keeping them in peak condition for their careers.
