The Yobe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with separate violent incidents that resulted in the deaths of two individuals in Damaturu.

The command’s spokesperson, Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed that the arrests followed reports of fatal attacks in different parts of the state capital.

In the first case, police responded to a distress call on April 7, 2026, concerning a violent altercation in the Bindigari Primary School area of Damaturu. Preliminary findings revealed that a 33-year-old man, Adamu Suleiman Saidu, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as “Aljan,” following a disagreement believed to be linked to substance abuse.

During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly used an axe to inflict severe head injuries on the victim. Although the suspect sustained minor injuries in the process, police operatives quickly moved to the scene, arrested him, and recovered the weapon used in the attack.

The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Damaturu for treatment but later died from his injuries. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court upon completion of the process.

In a separate incident, police officers from the ‘C’ Division responded to another violent confrontation on April 5 in the Abari community. The altercation involved two young men—Abdullahi Musa, 20, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21—and reportedly began over a disagreement involving a borrowed T-shirt.

The situation escalated into a physical fight, during which one of the individuals lost consciousness after sustaining injuries. He was taken to the Specialist Hospital in Damaturu, where he was later confirmed dead.

Police confirmed that Abdullahi Musa has also been taken into custody in connection with the incident, while investigations continue.

The police command has called on parents, community leaders, and civil society organisations to intensify efforts in addressing drug abuse among youths, which it noted as a contributing factor in some violent crimes.

Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order in the state, highlighting ongoing efforts to reduce crime through collaboration with local communities.
