Former Super Eagles’ defender, Kenneth Omeruo has
rated Galatasaray of Turkey’s outgoing top scorer, Victor Osimhen as currently
the best striker in the world of
football, Sports247 reports.
Omeruo, who played for Standard Liege and ADO Den Haag
of Netherlands, Middlesbrough of England, Alayanspor and Kasimpassa of Turkey
as well as Leganes of Spain, praised Osimhen for achieving several feats in
just one season on loan at Galatasaray.
With speculation now hanging over Osimhen’s next port
of call, as his season-long spelll at Gala from SSC Napoli of Italy expires
this month, Omeruo tagged him as ‘best striker in the world’ and confessed that
he would love to see the youngster play next for Chelsea of England.
Omeruo, who was part of Nigeria’s winning squad at the
2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa when he was just 20 years old,
further disclosed that he had a discussion with Osimhen before the all-action
striker made the switch to Istanbul from Naples, and recalled how he assured
the 2023 African Footballer of The Year that he would enjoy playing in Turkey
to the fullest.
Omeruo retorted, “Right now, he’s the best striker in
the world for me. That’s because of what he has done in Turkey.
When he was about going to Gala, we spoke, and I told
him, ‘They will kill you with love.’
“In Turkey, the fans make you appreciate being there,
and they make you love your job. It’s not just about the club you are playing
for but, as long as you are a football player, you are a star for them.”
The now 31-year-old Omeruo, who was registered
officially as a player of Chelsea from 2012 to 2019, but never got to play for
them in any competitive match, is still staying loyal to The Blues, as he says
the next club he would love to see Osimhen feature for is the London-based side
that recently won the UEFA Conference League.
“After this, now I want to see Victor in the Premier
League. No doubt, I want to see him in England, and I want to see him conquer
that league … especially with Chelsea. Arsenal also need him, but I want him to
win trophies (with Chelsea),” Omeruo affirmed.
