A member of the Hunters Vigilante Group was
allegedly shot dead by a fellow operative during a routine patrol in Plateau
State.
The deceased, identified as Jafar Umar, was
reportedly killed in the early hours of Saturday, February 21, in K-Vom,
located in Jos South Local Government Area.
According to security sources cited by
Vanguard, Umar was allegedly shot by his colleague, identified simply as
Nanchit, following a minor disagreement while both men were on patrol duty.
The incident has sparked outrage and grief
within the community, with the victim’s family demanding justice.
Speaking to journalists, the deceased’s
father, Alhaji Umaru Umaru, recounted how he received the devastating news.
“I was called in the early hours of Saturday
morning by security operatives that my son was killed. Upon arrival, I
confirmed that the victim was my son,” he said.
He described the incident as deeply painful,
noting that the suspect was not only his son’s patrol partner but also a former
neighbour.
“He was killed by his fellow vigilante, with
whom he patrolled. This is very unfortunate because the vigilante who shot him
was once a neighbour,” he added.
Alhaji Umaru stressed that the family is
seeking justice and called for accountability, urging authorities to ensure
that such a tragic occurrence does not happen again in the community.
