ABUJA, Nigeria — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially debunked false reports circulating on social media alleging that the recently concluded 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) was cancelled due to widespread malpractice and examination leaks.

In a press statement released earlier this week, WAEC clarified that the viral press release, which claimed the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC had jointly annulled the examination, was fabricated and did not originate from the examination body.

“The WAEC Management would like to state unequivocally that the spurious press statement being circulated did not emanate from the Council. The said examination has not been cancelled,” the statement read.

The 2025 WASSCE was conducted between Thursday, April 24, and Friday, June 20, with a record total of 1,973,253 candidates registered across 23,554 schools, comprising 979,228 males and 994,025 females.
