German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen are weighing up
the possibility of terminating the loan deal of Nigeria Super Eagles striker
Victor Boniface, following his difficult start at the club.
Boniface joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen
after a proposed move to Italian giants AC Milan fell through. However, the
Nigerian forward has struggled to settle, failing to find the back of the net
since his arrival this season.
Speaking after Werder Bremen’s recent outing against
Augsburg, the club’s Sporting Director, Clemens Fritz, admitted that Boniface’s
situation remains unclear. He revealed that the striker is currently sidelined
with injury, with the club in close contact with Bayer Leverkusen’s medical
team.
“Victor is injured at the moment and we are in contact
with the Leverkusen doctors. We want to let it calm down a bit for now,” Fritz
told Deichstube.
“He’ll switch off for a few days, but then we’ll have
to see how it develops. After that, however, the topic of his sporting future
could well be on the table.”
Boniface has registered just two assists in all
competitions for Werder Bremen this campaign and is yet to score a goal, a run
of form that has intensified speculation over a possible early end to his loan
spell.
