Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom
Wike, has reaffirmed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is committed to
resolving internal disputes following its National Convention scheduled for
March 29 and 30.
Wike downplayed ongoing legal concerns raised by a
faction associated with Tanimu Turaki, insisting that the party remains
inclusive and capable of addressing grievances from all sides.
He acknowledged that disagreements are inevitable in
any large political organisation, noting that the PDP, with its broad
membership base, cannot expect complete consensus at all times. However, he
stressed that efforts are underway to engage dissatisfied members, understand
their concerns, and find common ground in the interest of party unity.
The minister made these remarks after inspecting the
Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, which has been designated as the
venue for the convention.
He was joined during the inspection by several key
party figures, including Okezie Ikpeazu, Chairman of the National Convention
Planning Committee; Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and
Mohammed Abdulrahman, Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee.
Wike also confirmed that the party has concluded its
zoning arrangement ahead of the convention. According to him, the presidency
has been allocated to the southern region, while the position of national
chairman has been zoned to the North.
He expressed confidence that the consensus-based
approach would ensure a smooth transition of leadership, adding that the party
is presenting a united front rather than relying on arrangements that
previously reflected internal divisions.
Wike concluded by emphasizing that the PDP is focused
on strengthening unity and moving forward collectively ahead of the convention.
