A 30-year-old woman, identified as Abigail Adebayo, has reportedly taken her own life in the Ijebu Ode area of Ogun State following alleged opposition to her planned marriage by her fiancé’s family.

According to reports, Abigail had been in a relationship with one Oniga Abiola since September 2025, and the couple had made plans to get married.

Trouble reportedly began about two weeks ago when Abiola’s mother asked her son to formally introduce the woman he intended to marry. Upon learning that Abigail had three children from a previous relationship, she was said to have opposed the union and later informed her eldest son, who also disapproved of the marriage.

Abigail was later found unresponsive in her room and was rushed to the General Hospital in Ijebu-Ode, where medical personnel confirmed her dead on arrival.

Abiola reportedly informed the Atan Ijebu Division of the Ogun State Police Command, stating that Abigail had ingested insecticide.

Police sources disclosed that detectives who visited the scene and examined the body at the hospital observed no visible signs of violence. Authorities say investigations into the incident are ongoing.

If you or someone you know is struggling with emotional distress or thoughts of self-harm, it is important to seek immediate help from trusted family members, community leaders, or medical professionals. Support is available, and speaking to someone can make a difference.
