A woman identified as Maijidda Alasan has
sustained injuries from a stray bullet allegedly fired by operatives of the National
Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during an operation at Kofar Dan
Agundi in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday, October
22, 2025.
Narrating her ordeal, Maijidda said she was resting in
her room when the bullet pierced through the roof and struck her in the thigh.
“I was lying down in my room when I suddenly heard
something hit the roof and then felt a sharp pain in my thigh. At first, I
thought it was a scorpion.
But when the pain became unbearable, I saw blood gushing out and screamed for
help,” she recounted.
When visited at her residence, Maijidda was seen lying
on a mat, her injured leg wrapped in bandages. She said the bullet was
recovered and handed over to the Kwalli Police Station.
“We reported the matter to the police and showed them
the bullet. They confirmed it didn’t belong to them. The DPO collected it and
said they would investigate.
Later, residents told us NDLEA officers had conducted a raid that day to arrest
drug suspects and fired shots. That’s why we believe the bullet came from
them,” she explained.
Her husband, Garba Muhammad, lamented that the
family had spent heavily on medical treatment without receiving support from
authorities.
“I went to the NDLEA divisional office, and the
officer in charge promised to investigate. But since then, we’ve heard nothing.
We won’t let the matter be swept under the carpet,” he said.
Garba appealed to the NDLEA State Commander in Kano
to personally probe the incident and ensure justice for his wife.
Efforts to reach the NDLEA spokesperson in Kano, Sadiq
Maigatari, were unsuccessful as he was said to be in China for a
training programme. Messages sent to his WhatsApp line also went unanswered.
The victim’s husband confirmed that the bullet, which
serves as key evidence, has been handed over to the police along with
photographs from the day of the incident to aid investigation.
