A Magistrate Court in Injiyaji, Damaturu, Yobe State,
has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Rabilu Sani, to 12 years imprisonment for the
sexual assault of a four-year-old girl in Jakusko Local Government Area.
The court found the defendant guilty after reviewing
evidence presented during the trial, confirming that the offence had been
proven beyond doubt. As a result, the presiding judge of Magistrate Court 1
handed down a custodial sentence without the option of a fine.
According to reports, the incident occurred in 2025
when the suspect allegedly lured the young victim into a room, where the
assault took place. He was arrested on November 9, 2025, and subsequently
charged to court after investigations were completed.
Medical evaluations conducted during the proceedings
confirmed that the convict is not infected with HIV, a detail disclosed during
the trial.
The case received significant attention from the Yobe
State Government, with the Ministry of Women Affairs playing a key role in
pursuing justice for the victim. The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Ya
Jalo Badama, was actively involved in ensuring the case was followed through to
its conclusion.
Authorities have described the judgment as a step
toward protecting vulnerable members of society and reinforcing the
consequences of such crimes.
