The lawmaker representing Maradun II Constituency in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Honourable Bello Faru, has defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing poor leadership and neglect under Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration.

Faru was formally received into the APC on Tuesday during a colourful ceremony held at the party’s Secretariat in Gusau, the state capital. The event was chaired by the State APC Chairman, Hon. Tukur Umar Danfulani, and attended by several party leaders.

The lawmaker had earlier announced his defection in a letter dated October 27, 2025, addressed to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly through the Clerk of the House.

“Having reviewed the recent happenings in our party, the PDP, especially at the national level, and my personal opinion of what I see as poor leadership of the party in Zamfara State, I wish to announce that I have ceased to be a member of the PDP and have joined the APC,” Faru stated in the letter.

He explained that his decision followed wide consultations with his constituents, who unanimously agreed to join the APC.

During the ceremony, five PDP ward chairmen from Faru/Magami, Gidan Goga, Tsibiri, Kaya, and Janbako wards, alongside the PDP ex-officio member for Maradun Local Government, Alhaji Salisu Dodo Faru, also defected to the APC with hundreds of supporters.

Faru accused Governor Dauda Lawal of failing to fulfil campaign promises, particularly on insecurity — the major issue that swayed voters in the 2023 elections. He lamented that his constituency had been sidelined, saying only the governor’s close allies were benefiting from his administration.

“There is no fairness in Dauda’s administration. Only favoured PDP members and his close allies are benefiting from the government,” Faru said.

He further alleged that the PDP had become engulfed in internal crises at all levels, forcing many of its governors and prominent members to defect to the APC.

“For these reasons, I decided to join Matawalle and Abdulaziz Yari, together with all my supporters and party executives in my constituency,” he added.

In his remarks, Alhaji Salisu Dodo Faru declared that the PDP was now “dead in Maradun II Constituency,” describing Governor Lawal as an “accidental politician who lacks direction.”

“By 2027, PDP will be a walkover because of its immature politics,” Dodo asserted.

Also speaking, Ahmad Lawal, who represented the defecting ward chairmen, said they followed Faru to the APC because of his integrity, leadership, and commitment to community development.
