Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has declared that
the United States has suffered a “disgraceful defeat” in its recent military
operations against Iran.
In a written message broadcast on Iranian state
television, Khamenei said the region has entered a “new chapter” involving the
Persian Gulf and the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. He described the
U.S. campaign as the “largest military deployment and aggression by the world’s
bullies in the region,” while insisting that Washington failed to achieve its
objectives.
His remarks come amid rising tensions linked to a
U.S.-led naval blockade and Iran’s continued restrictions in the Strait of
Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. The developments have intensified
fears of wider instability in global energy markets.
The statement also directly counters claims from U.S.
President Donald Trump, who recently said that up to 80% of Iran’s missile
production capability had been neutralised during the ongoing operations.
Despite those assertions, Iranian leadership has
maintained a defiant tone. President Masoud Pezeshkian and military adviser
Mohsen Rezaei have both dismissed the U.S. maritime strategy as ineffective,
warning of a strong response if the blockade continues.
The exchange of statements underscores the growing
geopolitical friction in the Gulf region, with both sides maintaining hardened
positions amid ongoing military and economic pressure.
