The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has
arrested a suspected drug dealer at the Audu Bako Secretariat in Kano during an
ongoing operation codenamed “Operation Sharar Mafaka.”
According to a statement released by the Kano
Strategic Command spokesperson, Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, the arrest took place
on April 30, 2026, after operatives acted on credible intelligence about drug
activity within government premises.
Officials said the suspect attempted to evade arrest
by climbing to the second floor of a building within the secretariat and
jumping from behind the structure upon sighting NDLEA operatives. However, he
was immediately apprehended by officers on the ground.
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered a
quantity of Cannabis sativa from the suspect, who was taken into custody for
further investigation and possible prosecution.
The suspect, identified as a car washer, allegedly
confessed to being involved in the illicit drug trade for about two years.
Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN DY
Lawal, described the arrest as a warning to individuals using public
institutions as hideouts for illegal activities, stressing that “Operation
Sharar Mafaka” remains active across the state.
He added that the agency is intensifying efforts to
dismantle drug distribution networks and ensure offenders are brought to
justice under the law.
