Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has signed
a new five-year contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2031.
The 21-year-old’s previous contract, signed in 2023
when he was just 17, was set to run until 2027. The new deal reflects his
development and growing importance within the first team.
A product of United’s academy, Mainoo has steadily
risen through the ranks, progressing from youth setups at The Cliff and
Carrington to becoming a regular presence at Old Trafford.
Speaking after signing the extension, Mainoo described
the club as his home and expressed pride in representing Manchester United. He
highlighted his journey from joining the academy at age six to now living his
dream as part of the senior squad.
“I have grown up seeing the impact this club has on
the city, and I embrace the responsibility that comes with wearing this shirt,”
he said, adding that he is eager to help the team compete for major trophies in
the coming years.
There had been speculation about his future earlier in
the season, including reports linking him with a potential loan move to SSC
Napoli during the January transfer window. However, the new contract puts those
rumours to rest.
Manchester United’s director of football, Jason
Wilcox, praised Mainoo’s talent, describing him as one of the most naturally
gifted young players in the game. He expressed confidence that the midfielder
will continue to develop into a key figure for the club as they aim to
challenge for top honours.
