As political activities begin to intensify ahead of
the 2027 general elections, leaders of a faction of the People’s Democratic
Party have held a high-level meeting with key figures from the African
Democratic Congress, fueling speculation about a possible alliance.
The meeting, reportedly convened by members of the
Turaki-led bloc within the PDP, took place at the residence of David Mark. It
brought together several influential political figures, including the Governor
of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Peter
Obi, among others.
Although details of the discussions were not
officially disclosed, sources suggest the talks may be part of broader efforts
to build a united opposition front capable of challenging the ruling party in
the next general elections.
The development comes amid ongoing internal divisions
within the PDP, which have led to the emergence of different factions within
the party.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral
Commission is said to currently recognise only the faction aligned with Nyesom
Wike, adding another layer of complexity to the party’s internal dynamics.
Political observers believe that any potential
collaboration between the PDP faction and ADC could significantly reshape the
opposition landscape if successfully formalised ahead of the 2027 polls.
