The management of Abdullahi Fodio University of Science and Technology, Aliero, Kebbi State, has ordered the immediate closure of the institution, directing all staff and students to vacate the campus without delay.

In an official memo released by the Office of the Registrar and Secretary to Council, the university announced that the shutdown takes effect immediately. The directive applies to all categories of students—postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma, remedial, and IJMB.

The notice, signed by Registrar Maimaro Tilli, instructed all students to leave the campus within one hour of the announcement. It also warned that the institution’s Security Division has been authorised to evacuate any student found lingering within the hostels or other restricted areas.

Students residing off campus, including those in areas such as Gidan Rami, were also advised to vacate their residences to avoid what the memo described as potential “embarrassment” from security personnel.

Although the university did not provide an official reason for the abrupt closure, internal sources suggest the decision is linked to escalating security concerns affecting educational institutions across northern Nigeria.

The shutdown comes in the wake of renewed attacks targeting schools. On Monday, gunmen abducted about 24 students at the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga in Kebbi State, killing the vice principal during the attack.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage. President Bola Tinubu has since directed security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted students and dispatched Vice President Kashim Shettima to the state. The President also ordered the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, to relocate to Kebbi to oversee rescue operations.

The Kebbi abduction was followed by another mass kidnapping in Niger State, where over 300 students were taken, further heightening national anxiety over school security.
