Adamawa State’s command of the Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC) has recorded 118 road accidents and 36 fatalities, and rescued 200
people in 2023.Sector Commander, Yahaya Sabo Adikwu emphasized that most road
accidents were caused by driver negligence, which is a man-made issue.
According to Adikwu, the corps recorded the highest
number of accidents in July, with 17 road crashes, followed by January with 16
accidents.
March saw the highest number of fatalities, with 14
deaths.He said that despite these challenges, the corps has made significant
progress in rescuing victims. In 2023, they rescued around 200 people and
assisted them in reaching their destinations safely.
Adikwu called on drivers to be more responsible and
cautious. He emphasized that drivers should see themselves as equals to pilots,
as they both bear the responsibility of ensuring their passengers’ safety.To
promote road safety, the corps also urged passengers to speak up if they notice
reckless driving. Commander Adikwu stressed that a real driver is one who
reaches their destination safely, with their passengers and vehicle intact.The
Adamawa State Road Safety Corps is committed to reducing road accidents and
fatalities. With the goal of achieving zero fatalities in the coming year, the
corps is working tirelessly to promote road safety awareness and responsible
driving practices. According to the World Health Organization, human behavior
is a leading cause of road accidents globally
