The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has described
the exit of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso as a mixed development—both a setback
and an opportunity—saying it ultimately eases internal pressure within the
party.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News Prime Time,
the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, acknowledged that
losing the two prominent figures is disappointing but insisted it does not
threaten the party’s chances in the 2027 elections.
According to Abdullahi, while Obi and Kwankwaso
contributed significantly to the party’s previous electoral strength, past
performance does not automatically translate into future success. He noted that
their departure has reduced internal tensions, giving the party room to focus
on its core strategies without undue influence.
He emphasized that the ADC still regards both
politicians as allies and has no intention of engaging in political hostility
with them.
Meanwhile, Obi, who has joined the Nigeria Democratic
Congress alongside Kwankwaso, explained that his decision was driven by
concerns over internal disruptions. He alleged that hidden forces were fueling
crises and legal battles aimed at undermining his political ambitions.
Drawing parallels to his earlier exit from the Labour
Party, Obi maintained that his moves are guided by national interest rather
than personal grievances. He also cautioned that the manipulation of internal
conflicts and legal challenges could weaken democratic processes, ultimately
affecting citizens the most.
