Nigeria’s Super Eagles will take on tournament hosts
Morocco in the semifinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after securing a
convincing 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarterfinals.
The three-time African champions sealed their place in
the last four with two quick goals early in the second half. Victor Osimhen
broke the deadlock shortly after the restart, before Akor Adams doubled
Nigeria’s advantage to put the game firmly beyond Algeria’s reach.
The Super Eagles, who finished as runners-up at the
2023 edition of the tournament, have emerged as one of the leading contenders
for the title, thanks to their disciplined displays and clinical attacking
approach throughout the competition.
Nigeria, however, face a stern test against Morocco,
who will enjoy home advantage in front of their supporters. The Atlas Lions
boast a talented and dynamic squad, known for their pace and effectiveness in
transition.
Morocco secured their semifinal berth with a win over
Cameroon and will be determined to make the most of playing on home soil as
they chase Africa’s top football prize.
The much-anticipated semifinal encounter between
Nigeria and Morocco is scheduled to take place at the Rabat Stadium on January
14.
