Senegal have booked a place in the semifinals of the
2025 Africa Cup of Nations after claiming a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Mali
in their quarterfinal clash.
The closely contested encounter saw both teams battle
for dominance, with clear scoring chances limited by disciplined defending and
intense midfield play from both sides.
The breakthrough eventually came through I. Ndiaye,
whose well-taken goal proved to be the difference between the two West African
rivals.
Ndiaye capitalised on a moment of attacking quality to
put the reigning African champions ahead, a lead they successfully protected
until the final whistle.
Mali pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing
stages of the match, but Senegal’s defence remained solid and well-organised,
denying the Eagles any clear-cut opportunities to get back into the game.
The victory confirms Senegal’s progression to the
semifinals as they continue their quest to defend the AFCON title. Mali,
meanwhile, bow out of the tournament after a spirited performance that
ultimately fell short.
Senegal will now shift focus to the semifinals, where
they await the winner of the quarterfinal encounter between Côte d’Ivoire and
Egypt.
