American missionary Alex Barbir has responded to calls
for his investigation following comments he made about recent killings in
northern Nigeria.
Barbir, in a video circulating online, criticised
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the security situation in the region, while
rejecting claims that his remarks were intended to incite division.
His comments drew sharp reactions from former
presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, who accused him of promoting disunity among
Nigerians and urged security agencies to investigate his statements.
Similarly, Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi called for Barbir
to be held accountable, alleging that his comments could fuel tension in
Plateau State.
The exchange has sparked debate online, with differing
views on the missionary’s statements and the broader issue of security in the
region.
Authorities are yet to issue an official response
regarding the calls for investigation.
