Romelu Lukaku could face disciplinary measures from
SSC Napoli after failing to report for the team’s scheduled return to training.
In an official statement, the club confirmed that the
striker did not respond to the call-up and noted that a decision would be made
regarding possible sanctions, as well as his long-term status within the squad.
Lukaku, however, has remained in Belgium, where he is
currently undergoing treatment for a hip-related issue. Reports suggest his
absence has frustrated club officials, especially given his limited appearances
this season following a previous hamstring injury.
Addressing the situation, the 32-year-old explained
that he has been dealing with ongoing physical challenges, including
inflammation and fluid in the iliopsoas muscle. He said his decision to
continue rehabilitation in Belgium was aimed at ensuring a full recovery before
returning to action.
Lukaku also emphasized his commitment to the club,
insisting he has no intention of abandoning Napoli despite the current
situation.
Since returning to fitness earlier this year, the
striker has struggled to secure a starting role in Serie A, raising questions
about his form and future.
With only one year left on his contract, uncertainty
continues to grow around Lukaku’s position at Napoli, with a potential move
away from the club increasingly being considered.
