Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has directed all political appointees in his administration to vacate their positions, handing over duties to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior civil servants in ministries, departments, and agencies. The directive comes just a day after Soludo was sworn in for his second term.

The instruction was issued in a statement signed by Nwabufo Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, which required affected officials to complete handovers by the close of work on March 18, 2026. The move is aimed at ensuring continuity in governance until a new cabinet is constituted.

Members of the outgoing first-term cabinet have also been invited to meet the governor on March 23 at the ANSEC Chambers in Awka.

Soludo and his deputy, Onyeka Ibezim, were sworn in on Tuesday at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka following his victory in the November 8, 2025, governorship election, officially declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In his inaugural address, the governor emphasized progress in security and economic activity across the state, stating, “The debilitating one-sit-at-home is over, and our schools, markets, businesses, and public servants are back to work. Ndi Anambra says that ours is now the safest, or at least one of the safest states in Nigeria.”

The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The mass relief of appointees marks the beginning of a new administrative phase as Governor Soludo prepares to form his second-term cabinet.
