Sa’ad Abubakar III, President-General of the Nigerian
Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, has announced that Friday, March 20, 2026,
will mark the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr across Nigeria, following the
completion of the Ramadan fast.
The declaration came after the crescent moon signaling
the end of Ramadan was not sighted anywhere in the country. In a statement
issued by Sambo Wali Junaidu, the Sultanate Council confirmed that no verified
reports of the Shawwal 1447AH crescent were received on Wednesday.
Consequently, Thursday, March 19, will complete the 30 days of Ramadan, making
Friday the first day of Shawwal.
The Sultan urged Muslims nationwide to observe the
occasion with prayers for peace, unity, and continued progress in Nigeria as
they celebrate the end of the holy month of fasting.
