Army Arrests Two Suspected Gunrunners, Recovers 444 Rounds of Ammunition in Taraba

Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Brigade have arrested two suspected gunrunners and recovered 444 rounds of ammunition in Wukari Local Government Area.

The development was disclosed in a statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, on Thursday, March 19, 2026.

According to the statement, the suspects—Wisdom Soomga, 32, from Ukum LGA of Benue State, and Elisha Danladi, 38, from Wukari LGA—were intercepted during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Wukari–Ikyaior Road.

The operation, carried out by troops attached to Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari, led to the recovery of 444 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Other items recovered from the suspects include ?29,200 in cash, two mobile phones, ATM cards, charms, personal belongings, and the motorcycle used for transportation.

The suspects and recovered items are currently in military custody as investigations continue to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.

Commander of the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Michael Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and swift action.

He urged personnel to sustain the momentum in tackling criminal activities and reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Taraba State.

The commander also called on members of the public to support security agencies with timely and credible information, while emphasizing that professionalism and dedication among troops will continue to be rewarded.
