Calvin Bassey secured 39.6% of the vote to narrowly
edge his Super Eagles teammate Alex Iwobi and win Fulham’s Player of the Year
award.
The versatile defender, who joined the London side two
seasons ago, was a mainstay in their defensive setup this campaign. He made 35
appearances in the Premier League, delivering strong and consistent
performances at the back for the Cottagers.
Iwobi finished in second place with 21.5% of the vote.
Reflecting on his award, Bassey expressed his
appreciation to his teammates, the technical crew, and the fans.
“Thank you guys for voting me Player of the Season,”
Bassey said. “I want to thank God without Him, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
“Big up to all my teammates, especially those who
aren’t always in the spotlight but contribute so much. Obviously, I’m also
grateful to the coaching staff and the manager for trusting me and believing in
me. Hopefully, we can achieve even greater things together next season. Thank
you for your support.”
