A staff member of the Benin Electricity Distribution
Company (BEDC) has died after reportedly being electrocuted while carrying out
repair work on an electricity pole in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, August 1,
2026, opposite the Federal Polytechnic Satellite Campus, where the technician
was working to restore electricity to residents following a power outage.
Eyewitnesses said the worker was on top of the
electric pole when he suddenly became weak and appeared disoriented, sparking
fears that he had suffered an electric shock.
The development caused panic among residents and
passersby, who immediately alerted emergency responders.
According to sources at the scene, the victim's
colleagues rushed to assist him before operatives of the Ekiti State Fire and
Emergency Service arrived and safely brought him down from the pole.
He was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for
urgent medical attention. However, hospital sources later confirmed that he
died while receiving treatment for his injuries.
