Bodo/Glimt continued their sensational Champions
League run with a 3-0 win over Sporting CP in the last-16 first leg at Aspmyra
Stadion, marking their fifth consecutive victory in the competition.
Sondre Brunstad Fet opened the scoring from the
penalty spot just after the half-hour mark, and Ole Didrik Blomberg doubled the
lead in first-half injury time. Kasper Høgh then completed the scoring with his
fifth Champions League goal in as many games, sending the home crowd into wild
celebrations with 19 minutes remaining.
The Norwegian side have stunned Europe this season,
recording shock victories over Manchester City and Atletico Madrid during the
league phase, before defeating Inter Milan home and away in the knockout
play-off round. Their Champions League debut continues to defy expectations,
putting them in prime position to reach the quarter-finals, where they will
face the winner of the Bayer Leverkusen vs Arsenal FC tie.
Bodo started the match strongly, with Blomberg
creating early opportunities, including a near-chance in the eighth minute for
Jens Petter Hauge. Sporting threatened briefly on the counter, but home
goalkeeper Nikita Haikin kept them at bay.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute when Bodo
were awarded a penalty for a foul on Fet, who calmly converted. Blomberg added
a second goal just before half-time, celebrating with a backflip. Despite
Sporting dominating possession in the second half, Bodo remained dangerous on
the counter, and Høgh’s clinical finish capped off a memorable night for the
Norwegian underdogs.
Bodo/Glimt now carry a commanding advantage into the
second leg in Portugal next Tuesday, while Sporting must engineer a
near-miraculous comeback to advance to the quarter-finals for the first time
since 1983.
