Paris Saint-Germain secured a thrilling 5-2 victory
over Chelsea FC in the UEFA Champions League Last-16 first leg at the Parc des
Princes on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The game was tightly contested for much of the first
hour, with Chelsea twice responding to an early strike from Bradley Barcola.
Malo Gusto equalized for the English side before Ousmane Dembele restored PSG’s
lead, only for Enzo Fernandez to level again at 2-2 heading into the second
half.
The match turned decisively in PSG’s favour after a
costly mistake from Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen. His misdirected pass
was intercepted by Vitinha, who lobbed the ball over the goalkeeper to put PSG
ahead 3-2 in the 74th minute.
Substitute Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then added a
spectacular fourth goal four minutes later, followed by a stoppage-time strike
to complete the 5-2 scoreline, giving the reigning European champions a
commanding advantage ahead of the return leg at Stamford Bridge next Tuesday.
Despite Chelsea’s resilience and periods of strong
play, PSG’s attacking firepower proved too much. Dembele, starting for just the
15th time this season, was influential, while Vitinha and Kvaratskhelia’s late
contributions sealed a dominant result.
Chelsea, under new manager Liam Rosenior, now face an
uphill battle to overturn the deficit in the second leg, as PSG demonstrated a
mix of experience, clinical finishing, and resilience despite recent
inconsistent form in domestic and European competitions.
The win also served as a measure of revenge for PSG,
who were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea in last July’s Club World Cup final,
highlighting the French side’s renewed hunger and determination in Europe.
