Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has shared details of a
conversation with Carlo Ancelotti regarding whether Neymar should be included
in Brazil’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking during a live session on his YouTube channel,
Lula disclosed that the national team coach directly sought his opinion on
Neymar’s potential call-up. The discussion comes amid growing public debate
about the forward’s place in the squad.
Ancelotti reportedly expressed concerns about Neymar’s
current fitness level, emphasizing that only players in top physical condition
would be considered for the tournament.
In response, Lula noted that while Neymar’s talent
remains unquestionable, selection should depend on both his fitness and
commitment. He stressed that the forward must demonstrate professionalism and
prove himself on the pitch rather than rely on reputation.
The president also pointed to top players like
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as examples of athletes who have maintained
high standards and longevity through discipline.
Lula concluded that Neymar still has time on his side
but must earn his place through performance and dedication if he hopes to make
the World Cup squad.
