The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has
arrested a 32-year-old Cameroonian national, Emmanuel Acha Leku, for the
alleged murder of his friend, 22-year-old Emmanuel Chukwuemeka, following a
dispute over the sharing of proceeds from an alleged internet fraud operation.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Ahmed Sanusi,
disclosed the development while providing details of the investigation.
According to him, detectives attached to the Apo Divisional Headquarters began
investigating the case on May 2 after receiving a report that Chukwuemeka had
gone missing and was suspected to have been kidnapped. The victim had
reportedly been unreachable since April 21, 2026.
Sanusi explained that the FCT Police Command worked
closely with the Benue State Police Command in a coordinated effort to track
down those responsible. Through the use of digital intelligence and
investigative technology, officers traced and arrested Leku alongside his
girlfriend, Ms. Kazan Vincent, in Adikpo, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue
State.
Preliminary findings revealed that the suspect and the
deceased allegedly had a history of carrying out fraudulent online activities
together. During interrogation, Leku reportedly confessed that a disagreement
arose after Chukwuemeka allegedly kept the entire proceeds from a successful
scam operation and refused to give him his agreed share.
Police investigations indicate that the dispute
escalated, prompting Leku to lure the victim to a remote mountainous area in
Lokogoma, where he allegedly killed him.
According to the police, the suspect subsequently
attempted to cover up the crime by using the victim’s mobile phone to contact
family members and demand a ransom of ?5 million, creating the impression that
Chukwuemeka had been kidnapped.
Further investigations revealed that after the
incident, Leku fled to Benue State and joined his girlfriend while allegedly
making plans to escape to Cameroon before he was apprehended by law enforcement
officers.
The police recovered two mobile phones from the
suspect, including the victim’s device, which investigators believe played a
key role in unraveling the case.
CP Sanusi further disclosed that the decomposing
remains of the deceased have been recovered and deposited at Sahad Hospital,
Apo, where an autopsy will be conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police said efforts are continuing to ensure that
all those connected to the crime are brought to justice.
