The Chinese government has expressed its readiness to
cooperate with Nigerian authorities as the Abia State Police Command
intensifies its search for the kidnappers of two Chinese nationals abducted in
the state.
The incident, which has drawn significant attention,
occurred in the Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, raising concerns
over the safety of foreign nationals working in Nigeria.
The Abduction Incident
According to police reports, the two Chinese nationals
were kidnapped while working at a mining site. The gunmen reportedly invaded
the site, overpowered security operatives, and whisked the victims away to an
unknown location.
The Abia State Police Command has since deployed
tactical teams and launched a massive manhunt for the abductors.
China Responds
Reacting to the incident, the Chinese Embassy in
Nigeria condemned the act and called for the immediate release of its citizens.
It also pledged to provide necessary support to Nigerian security agencies in
ensuring the safe rescue of the victims.
“The safety of our citizens is paramount,
and we trust Nigerian authorities will take all necessary measures to secure
their release,” an embassy statement said.
Police Assure Swift Action
Speaking on the ongoing operation, the Abia State
Police Commissioner assured the public that no stone will be left unturned in
rescuing the abducted Chinese nationals.
“We are working round the clock with
relevant security agencies and local vigilantes to track down the criminals and
rescue the victims unharmed,” he stated.

The abduction of foreign nationals has become a
worrying trend in some parts of Nigeria, particularly in areas with mining
operations and infrastructural projects involving expatriates.
Security experts have urged companies to strengthen
their internal security measures and cooperate closely with law enforcement.
