The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General
Waidi Shaibu, has charged 3,391 newly inducted soldiers of the Nigerian
Army to uphold the highest standards of discipline, professionalism,
courage and patriotism as they formally begin their military careers.
Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the charge on Saturday
during the Passing Out Parade of the 89 Regular Recruits Intake, held at
the Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo. The event marked a historic milestone
as it was the first Passing Out Parade since the establishment of the
depot.
Describing the ceremony as significant, the COAS
reminded the recruits that they were the pioneer set graduating from the
Osogbo depot and therefore carried a special responsibility to uphold its
reputation.
“This ceremony is historic as the first Passing Out
Parade of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo. You are the pioneer set and you must
wear this badge with pride. Conduct yourselves as worthy ambassadors of this
institution throughout your careers,” Shaibu said.
The Army Chief noted that the soldiers were joining
the Nigerian Army at a critical period in the nation’s history, with
evolving and complex security challenges confronting the country.
He urged the recruits to rely on the values instilled
during their rigorous training, stressing the need for courage, resilience and
professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
Lieutenant General Shaibu also encouraged the new
soldiers to approach their responsibilities with confidence and hope for
success rather than fear of failure, assuring them that discipline and
dedication would remain key to overcoming challenges in their service to the
nation.
