Fanny Amun Resigns From NFF Fact-Finding, Ethics Committees

Former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Secretary General, Ambassador Fanny Amun (MON), has resigned from both the NFF Fact-Finding Committee and the federation’s Ethics Committee.

Amun announced his decision on Tuesday in Lagos during an interactive session with journalists, saying he stepped down from the fact-finding committee shortly after submitting his report to NFF President Ibrahim Gusau.

The former national team coach said his resignation was intended to protect the integrity and independence of the committee’s findings and prevent any attempt to interfere with the report.

Amun, who guided Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets to victory at the 1993 FIFA U-17 World Cup, said he had already submitted his findings and recommendations to the NFF president, including suggestions on how to prevent a recurrence of the problems that affected the country in Morocco.

“I decided to announce my resignation after submitting the report because I didn’t want anybody to tamper with it. I expect them to study the report and implement the recommendations,” Amun said.

Explaining his decision to leave the Ethics Committee, Amun said he became concerned after discovering that its work did not extend to individuals contesting for positions on the NFF Executive Committee.

He described the exclusion as unacceptable, arguing that the committee’s responsibilities should apply to everyone within the federation’s electoral process.

“I believe that the work of the ethics committee should not exclude any person. But when I discovered that some people were not included in our work, I decided to quit,” he stated.

Amun’s resignation comes at a challenging time for Nigerian football, with the country facing a series of disappointing results and setbacks involving its national teams.

The development has also intensified concerns over the administration, governance and overall direction of football in the country.

The NFF had established the Fact-Finding Committee to investigate the factors responsible for Nigeria’s recent struggles and recommend measures that could help restore stability and improve the development of the sport.
