The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly
dissolved the board of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), led by its
Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, just a day before the commencement of the 2026/27
NPFL season.
According to reports, other executive members of the
NPFL board were also affected by the decision.
The shake-up is said to extend beyond the NPFL, with
the leadership of the Nigeria National League (NNL), Nigeria Nationwide League
One (NLO), and Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) also reportedly affected.
The NFF has directed that the administration of the
affected leagues be handed over to their respective Chief Operating Officers
(COOs), who are members of staff of the Federation.
Where a league's COO is not an NFF staff member, the
Acting General Secretary of the NFF is expected to deploy a new COO from the
Federation to oversee the affairs of such league pending further directives.
The development comes at a crucial moment, with the
2026/27 NPFL season set to kick off, raising questions about the immediate
administrative structure and leadership of Nigeria's top-flight league.
