The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that admissions into federal unity colleges are now fully automated and restricted to each school’s approved capacity.

In a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja, the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, said the reform was introduced to address the long-standing issue of overpopulation and overstretched facilities in unity colleges.

Coverage of Current Admissions

The automated system currently covers 80 conventional Federal Unity Colleges for Junior Secondary School 1 admissions. Boriowo added that admission lists for the 42 Federal Technical Colleges under the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme would be released later.

She explained that the new framework is designed to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency, ensuring schools operate strictly within their carrying capacity. Admission results are now available online via the Ministry’s official portal: www.education.gov.ng.

What to Know

  • Admission into Unity Colleges begins with the National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE), conducted by NECO.
  • The 2025 NCEE was held on June 14 across centres in Nigeria, Benin Republic, and Togo.
  • The exam tested candidates in Mathematics, English, General Studies, and Quantitative & Verbal Reasoning.
  • There are 104 Unity Schools in Nigeria, spread across all 36 states.
  • In June 2025, the Federal Government converted all Federal Science and Technical Colleges into Federal Technical Colleges, with the first TVET admission cycle beginning in September 2025.

The ministry said the reform would streamline admissions, reduce infrastructure strain, and uphold higher educational standards across the nation’s unity schools.
