The Federal Government of Nigeria has congratulated
the Super Eagles on their third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations
(AFCON), describing the achievement as a testament to the team’s hard work,
resilience, and Nigeria’s rich football tradition.
In a statement, Minister of Information and National
Orientation, Idris Mohammed, said:
“Congratulations, Super Eagles. Your performance
throughout the tournament was a source of pride and joy for our nation. You
didn’t just play; you inspired millions of Nigerians at home and in the
diaspora.”
The highlight of Nigeria’s victory over Egypt in the
bronze medal match came from goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who saved two crucial
penalties from Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush, before Ademola Lookman
converted the decisive spot-kick to secure a 4-2 shootout win in Casablanca.
Mohammed praised the team’s discipline and unbroken
fighting spirit, noting that despite a heartbreaking semi-final loss to Morocco
on penalties, the bronze medal was earned with dignity and effort.
“To our coaches, support staff, and every player who
wore the green and white jersey, thank you for your dedication and sacrifice,”
he added.
With this victory, Nigeria’s AFCON bronze medal tally
rises to nine, the highest of any nation, maintaining an undefeated record in all
third-place games in tournament history.
