Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives
Congress (APC) in Kano, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has stepped down from his position
as Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN).
In a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, Gawuna
stated that his decision takes immediate effect and aligns with a directive
issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requiring political appointees to resign
in line with provisions of the Electoral Act.
He expressed gratitude to the president for the
opportunity to serve, describing his tenure as both an honour and a privilege,
while acknowledging the trust placed in him to contribute to national
development.
Gawuna also indicated that he is committed to ensuring
a smooth transition, pledging to hand over responsibilities in accordance with
established procedures.
Sources close to the development suggest that he has
concluded plans to realign politically with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and is
expected to formally defect to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the
coming days.
His resignation comes amid ongoing political shifts
ahead of future elections, with observers noting that his move could influence
political alliances within Kano State.
