Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The declaration was made during a state-wide broadcast to the people of Enugu, where the governor said the move was driven by the need to connect the South-East more closely to the central government.

“There always comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny. Today, after deep reflection, we have decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress,” Mbah stated.

The governor expressed appreciation to the PDP for the platform and support that helped him win the 2023 governorship election but emphasized that the shift was imperative to achieve his administration’s development goals.

“To the Peoples Democratic Party which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend my deep gratitude. The PDP supported us through a demanding campaign and joined us in celebrating victory.

“Leadership demands difficult, even painful decisions, in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny,” he added.

Mbah noted that joining the APC would enhance collaboration with the Federal Government and provide Enugu State with greater access to national development initiatives.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing its policies as “bold and transformative,” and acknowledged the massive federal support the state has received under the current government.

The defection was accompanied by members of the Enugu State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, councillors, and other political appointees.

Sources close to the development revealed that Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri is also set to defect to the APC in the coming days, while Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno had earlier moved to the ruling party along with their officials.
