Governor Radda Promises Relief After Flood Devastates Katsina Community

Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has assured residents of Dangamau community of immediate government support following a devastating flood that destroyed homes and displaced several families.

The flood, which occurred earlier in the week, left widespread destruction in the community, rendering many residents homeless and disrupting economic activities.

Reacting to the disaster, Governor Radda described the incident as tragic and expressed sympathy to the affected families, assuring them that the state government would provide the necessary assistance.

"On behalf of the Government and the good people of Katsina State, I commiserate with the victims of this disaster in Dangamau. We feel your pain and we will not leave you alone at this time," the governor said.

Radda directed relevant government agencies to immediately assess the extent of the damage and begin emergency response efforts to support those affected.

He said arrangements had already been made to provide relief materials, temporary shelter, food and other essential items to displaced residents.

"Efforts are in top gear to bring succour to the displaced persons. Food, shelter and other basic needs will be provided without delay," he assured.

The governor also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with emergency officials as the government works to restore normalcy in the affected community.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, Radda prayed for the safety of residents and called for divine protection against future disasters across the state.

The latest incident adds to a series of flood-related tragedies recorded in Katsina State during the current rainy season.

Just days earlier, two brothers—12-year-old Muhammad Salisu and seven-year-old Abdurrahman Salisu—lost their lives after they were swept away by floodwaters in the Janbango community of Katsina metropolis while returning home from an Islamiyya school.

Following an extensive search by residents, the bodies of the two children were recovered from separate locations, leaving the community in mourning.

Their father, Malam Salisu Arabi, described the incident as the most painful experience of his life, while their mother appealed to the government to implement measures that would prevent similar tragedies.

Residents of Janbango blamed the recurring floods on inadequate drainage infrastructure, noting that runoff from several parts of Katsina Local Government Area regularly overwhelms the community during heavy rainfall.

Chairman of the Janbango Community Development Association, Malam Tajuddeen, said repeated appeals for proper drainage systems had yet to receive lasting attention.

"This is not the first time we have experienced flooding, but this is one of the most heartbreaking incidents because it claimed the lives of two innocent children," he said.

Community members have renewed calls on the Katsina State Government and relevant authorities to construct effective drainage channels and strengthen flood-control measures to safeguard lives and property during the rainy season.
